French directors: which RCS address-protection options should you examine?

Check the scope of French director address protection, distinguish the registered office and review documents and directory copies separately.

If you are a director whose home address appears through French company records, examine the current official address-protection guidance before assuming the record can be changed. Your role, the function of the address and the publication carrying it all matter. This is a scope check, not a promise of anonymity for a company or automatic removal of every older copy.

Check the people and situations covered

Start with the live Service Public company guidance. It describes address-protection possibilities and identifies limits, including a distinction involving former directors. Read the current section for the person and record concerned rather than relying on a headline about a new privacy measure.

Identify whether you are a current representative, a former representative or a person connected to another kind of entity. Record the company identifier and legal form. These facts determine which official questions need answering; they should not be treated as interchangeable just because all the people concerned call themselves entrepreneurs.

Do not transfer company guidance automatically to a sole-trader activity. The official page itself distinguishes its scope. If your business form differs, locate the relevant guidance rather than adapting the most convenient procedure by analogy.

Fictional example: a current company officer and a person who left a different company both discover home addresses in records. Their privacy concerns may sound similar, but that does not establish identical eligibility. Each needs to check the procedure against the actual role and publication.

Keep uncertainty visible. If you cannot establish whether your role is covered, seek clarification before authorising a provider to submit an application under that route. You can still inventory the exposed pages and gather relevant records while the procedural question is being resolved.

The official guidance specifically identifies current legal representatives and certain indefinitely liable partners, including partners in SNCs and civil companies. It distinguishes former directors rather than treating them as automatically covered. That is a concrete eligibility question to check against your role, not a reason to assume every person appearing in company information can use the same application.

Service Public also identifies the business-formalities portal as the route for the RCS request and explains that the address protection extends to the Kbis extract within that procedure. This does not mean a linked filed act or every private copy has been changed. Retain those as distinct inventory entries. When consulting the official page, follow the current formalities link and read the actual application instructions before deciding what evidence to provide. The table is a way to organise the scope check, not an application form or a universal eligibility decision.

Separate your home address from the registered office

Determine how the address is used in the record. Is it identified as the individual's residence, the company's registered office or both? Protection concerning one field should not be described as proof that the company's public address will also disappear.

Read the labels and underlying documents. A home used as a registered office creates an overlap that must be assessed honestly. An application should not describe an accurate business address as a mistake simply because it is also where you live.

Changing domiciliation may be a separate option, but it comes with its own administrative and practical questions. It should not be sold as an automatic eraser for older documents. Ask what future record it changes and what existing publications need separate review.

The address-functions guide offers two fictional examples and a classification method. Use it to prepare a short statement of the address's current role and any earlier uses, rather than providing an unnecessary account of household arrangements.

If the address is already wrong, a factual correction may be relevant independently of an occultation procedure. If it is correct but you seek protection, explain that objective. Accuracy and disclosure are different questions, and a well-prepared request should not confuse them to make the case sound simpler.

Identify the official procedure currently in force

Follow links from the official guidance to the responsible service. Verify the recipient, requested evidence and live submission instructions before sending anything. Processes and interfaces can change, so a saved screenshot from another person's experience is not a reliable procedural checklist.

Do not infer fees or required documents from a commercial article. Read the official instructions applicable to the actual application. Where a cost or document requirement is unclear, ask before proceeding. This guide deliberately does not supply an unverified universal tariff or document list.

Keep authentication and assistance separate. If the service requires your personal access, use it yourself on the official site. A provider can explain or prepare parts of a case without receiving general access to your identity services.

Record exactly what is submitted: entity identifier, person, publication and requested protection. Save the acknowledgement and later response privately. If you receive a request for more information, note which issue remains open. Receipt should not be recorded as approval.

Ask a paid provider what it would do if the procedure does not fit. An honest workflow can identify an exclusion or refer a specialist issue rather than promise that an application will succeed once payment is made. Assessment of fit is part of the work, and the commercial terms should explain how that stage is treated.

Examine attached documents separately

An address can appear in a structured field and inside a filed document. Make separate inventory entries for the live record, the document and the directory page linking to it. A change in one should not be presumed to alter all three.

For each attachment, record its title, date, URL and relevant page. Establish whether you are looking at the original document or a copy hosted by a private publisher. The next question is which procedure, if any, addresses that particular item.

Do not edit an evidential copy and present it as though the official document changed. If you prepare a private redacted extract for an enquiry, label it clearly and keep the original separately. The recipient needs to understand what the public publication currently contains.

Ask whether the official request covers the field, the document or a defined combination. If the answer is narrower than your inventory, preserve the uncovered items for separate assessment. A partial result can be meaningful without being universal.

Historical documents also require care with dates. An old address can be historically correct while creating a present exposure concern. Do not frame it as an inaccurate current address unless that is what the publication actually asserts. Describing the concern accurately gives the reviewer a better basis for deciding what is possible.

Check directory copies after processing

Once an official outcome is confirmed, return to the pages that prompted your concern. Check the exact field and documents, with dates. Distinguish what the authority says it processed from what each directory currently displays.

Directory summaryDoes the identified personal field remain?
Hosted documentIs the relevant address still visible?
Search resultWhat does the original query currently show?

If a directory still displays information you believe relates to the completed procedure, contact its verified channel with the page and relevant confirmation. Do not assume every remaining item has the same source or is automatically unlawful. Ask the specific question the evidence supports.

A search result needs separate interpretation. The source may have changed while an excerpt differs, or the source may remain available despite a search change. Use the removal-and-delisting guide to define the relevant follow-up.

Where the person or record falls outside the procedure you examined, do not hide that limitation in a request. Seek the appropriate clarification, alternative assessment or specialist advice. The practical goal is to understand what can be protected and document the remaining exposure, not to turn one official measure into an unsupported claim that a director's entire business history can disappear.
